On Monday, the Proteas defeated New Zealand by nine wickets in their first T20 World Cup warm-up match in Brisbane.

The Proteas won the toss and chose to bowl at Allan Border Field, dismissing the Black Caps for 98 in 17.1 overs.

Keshav Maharaj, the acting captain, took 3/17 in three overs, while fellow spinner Tabraiz Shamsi (2/6) and seamer Wayne Parnell (2/8) also impressed. Martin Guptill led the way for New Zealand with 26 points.

South Africa then easily chased down their win target, reaching 100/1 in 11.2 overs.

Rilee Rossouw hit 54 not out off 32 balls, while Reeza Hendricks hit 27 off 24 balls. Aiden Markram was not out after 16 balls.

The Proteas were without regular skipper Temba Bavuma, who is still recovering from the illness that kept him out of action in India. Quinton de Kock, the wicketkeeper-batsman, was also rested, with Heinrich Klaasen taking the gloves.
