Police in the Western Cape have arrested a 42-year-old man for allegedly “shooting and killing a Grassy Park constable in cold blood.”
According to police spokesperson Colonel André Traut, he was arrested “at his hideout” in Ravensmead late Thursday night.

At around 17:45 on Thursday, the 26-year-old constable was shot in Blackbird Avenue, Grassy Park, while he and a colleague were responding to reports of an armed suspect in the area.
“During an altercation with the suspect, the member was fatally shot in the chest, while his partner escaped unharmed. The suspect fled the scene of the crime “Traut stated.
“The 9mm pistol he stole during the altercation with SAPS members was discovered and confiscated,” Traut said.
The Hawks are still investigating the incident’s circumstances.
On Monday, the man is scheduled to appear in Wynberg Magistrate’s Court.
Meanwhile, members of the community have started a petition to oppose the man’s release on bail.
