French footballer Kylian Mbappe has voiced his criticism against Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) for using his image in a video promoting the sale of season tickets for the 2023/24 season without his knowledge. The video featured parts of an interview with Mbappe, which he claims he did not know would be used for marketing purposes. Mbappe took to social media to express his disagreement with the published video, stating that he was fighting for individual image rights. The French captain had previously refused to participate in a Les Bleus photoshoot, causing the French Football Federation to review its stance on image rights.
PSG’s Response
According to The Athletic, PSG held a call with Mbappe’s representatives to clarify any miscommunication. However, tensions are already high at PSG this season due to their latest failure in the Champions League and consecutive losses in Ligue 1, so this controversy comes at a poor time. PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi recently stated that the club would aim to retain both Mbappe and Lionel Messi, but it is unlikely that the latter will extend his contract in Paris.
Mbappe’s Potential Absence
It is unclear whether Mbappe will be included in PSG’s squad to face Nice on Saturday following this incident. If Mbappe misses the game, he will add to the list of PSG absentees, which includes Neymar, Presnel Kimpembe, Sergio Ramos, and Marco Verratti. The transfer window is also on the horizon, and many are speculating on whether Mbappe will remain with PSG or move to another club.
