MAX

Max Verstappen will attempt to reclaim his 2022 drivers’ title this weekend in Japan, following what he described as a “very messy” weekend in Singapore.

Under the Singapore lights, the Dutchman’s Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez won the wet street circuit and said Verstappen would have to work on his title again this weekend at Suzuka.

Max should get it in Japan, in my opinion. “It would be very special for Honda,” said Perez.

Verstappen will be unable to prevent a second consecutive title win for the Dutchman if he wins and sets the fastest lap in Japan. Even if he finishes second at Suzuka, Verstappen will still be crowned champion if Leclerc finishes fifth.

Verstappen was enraged after qualifying when a potential pole lap was called off at the very last corner due to a fuel sample concern.

“Of course, it all started yesterday (Saturday),” Max explained.

“When you start in that position, you either manage to progress or it’s frustrating. Seventh place is better than eighth place, but our performance in training was abysmal, and I’m not here for that. It’s best to forget about this race and focus on Japan.”

“It had nothing to do with it,” he explained to Ziggo Sport.

“After qualifying, he was probably so angry that he didn’t sleep well.”

Verstappen, on the other hand, insists he will get enough sleep in the few days between Singapore and Japan.

“Everything seemed to be working against me, which is frustrating because I want to perform well every weekend.” “This one was bad, but it doesn’t really matter,” he said.

“We have a big lead, and there are five races left.”
