Fernando Alonso, Alpine
For Alonso, this year’s Singapore GP was very special as it marked his 350th F1 race, making him the most experienced driver in the sport’s history. Last time out in Italy, he equalled Kimi Raikkonen on 349 race starts. But like in Italy, the Spaniard retired from the race after his engine gave up life.
And it’s not as if Alonso had a bad outing. He started the race in fifth place and kept his nose clean throughout the opening stint. But when Nicholas Latifi (Williams) caused Alfa Romeo’s Zhou Guanyu to retire from the race and the safety car was deployed, things began falling apart. Through no fault of his own, Alonso’s Alpine came to a halt shortly after the race got under way again.

Alonso managed to complete 20 laps, and 6 laps later, teammate Esteban Ocon also retired with an engine issue. A memorable day indeed for Alonso, but not for the right reasons.
