After allegedly fighting cops and grabbing two rifles, twelve convicts fled from the Komatipoort police station.

A 34-year-old male detainee was re-arrested after being apprehended at the Lebombo border checkpoint while attempting to cross into Mozambique.

Colonel Donald Mdhluli, a police spokesperson in Mpumalanga, said the detainees fled on Saturday evening.

“During the scuffle, the suspects allegedly stole two service firearms.

“Soon after their escape, the [police] members were activated, and one of the suspects was cornered as he attempted to cross the Lebombo-Mozambique border.

“Police are still looking for the remaining 11,” Mdhluli said.
