Max Verstappen’s father believes his son will dominate Formula One for several years before retiring.
After a strong start from Ferrari, 25-year-old Dutchman Verstappen went on to dominate the 2022 season, clinching his second consecutive drivers’ title with four races remaining.
Post-2028
What happens after 2028, when Verstappen’s current long and lucrative Red Bull contract expires, is unknown, according to Jos.
“We’ll take another look in 2028,” he said. “It’s not like he’s trying to break any records.”
Verstappen senior warns that he has seen firsthand how his son is fully capable of enjoying life outside of F1.
“Every once in a while, you really need that rest,” Jos said.
“Max has the ability to be completely ‘off.'” He doesn’t want to talk about F1 after the season or during the summer break.
“We had a maximum of 18 races during my time.” There are now 22, and there will be 24 next year. It is also possible to have too much.”
