FRITZ

Taylor Fritz is the first American in nearly five years to be ranked in the ATP men’s top ten after winning the Japan Open.

Following his victory over compatriot Frances Tiafoe, the 24-year-old rose three places to eighth in the rankings released on Monday.

Despite losing in the first round in Astana last week, Spain’s US Open champion Carlos Alcaraz maintains his lead.

Rafael Nadal of Spain remains second after a week in which the 36-year-old celebrated the birth of a baby boy.

Novak Djokovic, Nadal’s main rival, won his 90th career title in Astana on Sunday but remains seventh in the rankings.

Stefanos Tsitsipas, who lost to Djokovic in the final, moves up to fifth place, replacing the injured Alexander Zverev.
