CARDIFF

On a wet and rainy Cardiff Arms Park on Saturday evening, the Stormers suffered their first United Rugby Championship (URC) defeat in 15 games against Cardiff.

After drawing 14-14 at halftime, the home team defeated the defending URC champions 30-24.

However, rain and strong winds pelted down as Rhys Priestland’s boot proved decisive in a thrilling match in Cardiff.

Theo Cabango and Jason Harries scored tries for the home team, while Priestland added a conversion and six penalties.

Meanwhile, the Stormers responded with four tries, including a brace by Nama Xaba and Leolin Zas.

Manie Libbok scored two conversions and a penalty as the reigning champion Stormers’ 15-game winning streak in the URC was snapped.

Cardiff has risen to sixth place, while the Stormers, who gained two points, have risen to fourth.

The Stormers return home to face the Lions at Ellis Park next weekend (Saturday, 29 October – 16:00), while Cardiff host the Scarlets (Sunday, 30 October – 17:00 SA time).
