A guy from Gauteng was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the murder of his pregnant girlfriend.
Siyabonga Lebohang Hlophe Mabe, 26, of Orange Farm, was convicted by the Gauteng High Court in Pretoria for the murder of the 36-year-old woman on February 29, 2020.
Mabe assaulted her and brought her to his shanty in Extension 7. “The deceased was discovered badly injured in an open veld near Mabe’s residence the following morning,” said National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Lumka Mahanjana.
Police and an ambulance were dispatched, but the woman died later that day as a result of blunt-force injuries to the head.
Mabe was arrested on April 12, 2021, and was detained when the NPA successfully challenged bail.
Advocate Lawrence Sivhidzho told the court that the five children will never know their mother’s love again. He described her horrific death, claiming she was dragged, her flesh peeled off, and she was left in the jungle all night.
“Mabe had no remorse. Even at the sentence stage, he maintained his innocence. As a result, [the prosecutor] sought the court to impose a deterrent (sic) punishment,” Mahanjana added.
