On Monday, Barcelona’s young starlet Pedri made history by becoming the country’s youngest player to compete in the European Championship. In Spain’s Euro 2020 opener against Sweden, the midfielder was named to the starting lineup. At the age of 18 years, six months, and twenty days, Pedri accomplished the feat.
Last season, Pedri joined Barcelona and immediately established himself as a starter for Ronald Koeman’s side. Many people were blown away by the teenager’s incredible ball skills at such a young age. In his first season, he made 52 appearances for Barcelona in all competitions.
Barcelona, who have been in financial trouble for the past couple of seasons, bought Pedri from Las Palmas for around € 4 and the move paid off. The 18-year-old is currently regarded as one of Europe’s most talented teenage footballers.
On March 25, 2021, Pedri made his Spain national team debut against Greece in a FIFA World Cup qualification match for 2022.
Pedri’s Manager revealed that he told his players about his Euro 2020 plans a year ago.
In the meantime, ahead of the crucial match against Sweden, Spain manager Luis Enrique revealed that he told his players about his Euro 2020 plans a year ago.
In a press conference on Sunday, Luis Enrique said, “About a year ago, I talked to the players and told them we were going to have a very clear idea of how to play.”
Despite going through a difficult week with a couple of COVID-19 cases, including captain Sergio Busquets, the former Barcelona manager stated that the team will not make any excuses in this game. “We had to adapt a little because we don’t have our captain, Busquets, here, which we would have loved to have, but we adapt.”
“It’s been a difficult week, to be sure, but there are no complaints or excuses. We have a fantastic squad, and we’re looking forward to our first game tomorrow,” he added.
