Frans Steyn, a Springbok and Cheetahs utility back, is out with a knee injury and is unlikely to play for the Springboks on their year-end tour.
Steyn, according to OFM, is suffering from a knee injury and may be sidelined for an extended period of time.
Steyn has only recently returned from a hamstring strain. He came off the bench for South Africa in the away leg of the Rugby Championship before starting at flyhalf against Argentina in Durban.
Johan Goosen of the Bulls was the only No. 10 named to the Bok squad this week. Damie Willemse was named as a “utility back” for the tour, but with Handre Pollard injured and Elton Jantjies unavailable, the Stormers star is expected to play a key role at flyhalf.
The Boks’ preparations for their end-of-year tour will begin this Sunday in Stellenbosch with the selection of 26 players.
The three-day training camp will bring together 17 South African players and nine players currently playing in Japan.
They will be in camp until Wednesday, October 26th, with a few of the players returning to their teams for URC duty a few days later.
