Sandile Mantsoe, who is currently serving a 32-year prison sentence for the murder of Karabo Mokoena, has been charged with fraud.
Mantsoe was taken from the Bloemfontein Prison and taken to Evander, Mpumalanga, to face investment fraud charges.
Mantsoe, according to Hawks spokesperson Captain Dineo Lucy Sekgotodi, recruited 180 government officials for the scam through his company Trillion Dollar Legacy.
Municipal employees and employees from the departments of justice and education were recruited for the R2 million scam.
“It is also alleged that the accused did not make the promised payment to his clients, and the victims reported the matter to Evander police station on December 27, 2016.”
Mantsoe appeared in Evander Regional Court on Monday, according to Sekgotodi. His case was rescheduled for September.

Mantsoe was sentenced to 32 years in prison in 2018 for the murder of his girlfriend, Mokoena.
Her charred remains were discovered in an open veld in Lyndhurst, Johannesburg, after her disappearance sparked a search by family and friends.
Mantsoe, a married father of three, had reportedly been dating Mokoena since October 2016. He denied killing Mokoena and claimed he disposed of her body after discovering she had committed suicide when he returned home.
