According to his lawyer, Mathias Pogba denies any involvement in the extortion allegations made by his World Cup-winning footballer brother Paul, which are the subject of an investigation.
Mathias’ denial was issued in a statement by his lawyer, Richard Arbib, after he posted a bizarre video online on August 27 in four languages (French, Italian, English, and Spanish) promising “great revelations” about the Juventus star.
Mathias, on the other hand, is adamant that he is the innocent party.
“Considering how the affair has evolved and the enormous media attention surrounding it, Mathias Pogba strongly insists he knows nothing about any extortion attempt against his brother, Paul Pogba,” the statement read.
“It is clear that the Pogba family’s difficulties are the result of outside threats, which the justice authorities, who are already involved, will assess.”
“Mathias Pogba, who wants to calm the situation with his brother above all, will now only speak with the investigating magistrates if necessary.”
Last week, it was announced that two investigating magistrates would lead the investigation.
They will investigate allegations of blackmail by an armed gang, kidnapping, and membership in a criminal conspiracy based on the findings of a preliminary investigation launched last month.
According to Paul Pogba, his blackmailers wanted to discredit him by claiming he asked a marabout (holy man) to cast a curse on Paris Saint-Germain and France star Kylian Mbappe, which Pogba denies.
The French police’s anti-gang and central crime units are working together on the investigation.
A judiciary source told AFP that police have already interviewed several people, including Pogba’s mother.
