FORD

The Pretoria Capitals have hired legendary Proteas all-rounder Jacques Kallis as an assistant coach, which has accelerated the SA20 coaching recruitment train.

Kallis will be Graham Ford’s right-hand man, having previously worked with Ford between 1999 and 2002, when Ford, fresh off success with the Dolphins, was promoted to the Proteas to replace Bob Woolmer.

Since his untimely departure in 2002 following a disastrous summer experience against Steve Waugh’s Australians, Ford has done the coaching rounds around the world, while Kallis has kept himself busy with various consulting assignments since retiring in 2013.

His notable ones have been with the Kolkata Knight Riders, for whom he has played in the Indian Premier League, as well as his highly publicised and contentious coaching consultancy stint with the Proteas during the early stages of Mark Boucher’s coaching tenure with the Proteas.

The franchise, which is affiliated with the Delhi Capitals in the IPL, has already signed Anrich Nortje and Migael Pretorius.

The auction, which is set to take place on September 19, will determine who the franchise will sign and how the rest of their roster will look.
