On Wednesday morning, users of the social media platform Facebook reported an unusual bug.
Many users complained that their Facebook feeds were being flooded with comments and posts sent to celebrity pages, and their complaints were displayed on the website Downdetector, where users of various tech platforms log outages.
According to the spokesperson, “Some users are reporting issues with their Facebook News Feed as a result of a configuration change made earlier today. We apologise for the inconvenience this has caused those who have been affected.”
According to The Verge, some users took advantage of the bug by spamming other users’ feeds with memes, while others attempted to profit from it by posting links to PayPal and cryptocurrencies.
According to one Downdetector user, some comments made in response to celebrity posts were “seriously offensive” and “terror-related.”

Another user complained that their account had been compromised and that they couldn’t get it back.
According to user comments on the site, the problem was discovered at 2 a.m. ET and was resolved at 5:15 a.m. ET.
According to The Verge, there were no issues reported on Facebook’s status dashboard.
Another flaw was discovered earlier this year on Facebook, which, according to reports, promoted false information in users’ News Feeds rather than removing it. According to The Verge, a software bug promoted posts on Facebook’s news feeds that contained false information, sexually explicit content, and violent threats over a six-month period beginning in March 2022.
