Egypt, Greece, and Saudi Arabia are in talks to co-host the 2030 World Cup, an Egyptian official said in televised remarks on Friday.
“The three countries are working tirelessly,” sports ministry spokesperson Mohammed Fawzi said on DMC television, adding that “the application to organise (the 2030 World Cup) is being studied.”
“Egypt will be one of the best countries” to host such a sporting event, he said, emphasising that Egypt had hosted numerous world championships in the previous three years.
A source at Greece’s Hellenic Football Federation confirmed to AFP in Athens that the three countries were in talks about hosting the 2030 World Cup jointly.
If the bid is successful, the event will be held in the northern winter to avoid extreme temperatures in the three countries, as was the case with this year’s World Cup in Qatar, according to the British newspaper The Times on Thursday.

In early August, Argentina, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay announced their bid to host the 2030 World Cup, while Spain and Portugal announced their joint candidacy last year.
The joint South American bid hopes to hold the 2030 final at Montevideo’s Centenario stadium, which hosted the first title match 100 years ago.
