ALBON

Alex Albon recently signed a new multi-year contract with Williams, but he won’t rule out a return to Red Bull in the future.

Albon raced for Red Bull in 26 races for the 2019 and 2020 Formula One seasons after rising through the junior ranks, but was replaced by Sergio Perez to partner Max Verstappen.

The Thai driver was a Red Bull reserve driver in 2021, but Williams arranged a loan deal for Albon to race for them in 2022, leaving the door open for a return to his former team.

“I’d say Red Bull is no different than any other team. There is always an option available to any driver at any time “Albon stated. “That’s the way it is.

2023 is the target date.

The 26-year-old is pleased to have been retained by Williams for the 2023 season and believes the agreement benefits all parties.

“I drive for Williams,” Albon explained. “I don’t think it makes sense to be on loan, especially if you’re doing more long-term contracts.

“Williams’ future is more than a year away. It is investigating the partnership and attempting to move the team up the grid.” To do so, you must be deeply ingrained in the team and completely focused on it.

“That isn’t to say I haven’t been this year. Naturally, I was. But it’s nice to be in a complete bubble where we’re all pushing against each other. It’s not just for a year, but also for long-term development.”
